Young Ambassador of Microbiology and Researcher in Innovative Probiotics

Appointed as a Young Ambassador of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Ange Olivier Parfait YAO is committed to promoting microbiology, scientific leadership, and international collaboration. A PhD candidate at Gembloux AgroBioTech (University of Liège), he develops Bacillus spp. and lactic acid bacteria-based probiotics for animal and plant health in Africa. His research is conducted within the European URBANE project (Horizon Europe), which advances innovative solutions for peri-urban agriculture.

My name is Ange Olivier Parfait YAO, and I am a Ph.D. student at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liège (Belgium), where I conduct my research within the BioEcoAgro research unit, MOM team. I began my academic journey at the University of Korhogo (Côte d’Ivoire), where I acquired my initial training in research through the completion of a Master degree in Biotechnology. This foundation was subsequently strengthened by a rigorous bioengineering education in Chemistry and Bioindustries at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech in Belgium.

My research activities focus, among other topics, on the development of probiotic formulations based on Bacillus spp. and lactic acid bacteria, intended for applications in animal and plant health across several African countries. This work is conducted within the framework of the URBANE European project (Horizon Europe), a large-scale international programme bringing together approximately 40 partners worldwide, with the objective of promoting innovative solutions for peri-urban agriculture.

Exactly two days ago, I was appointed Young Ambassador of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), in recognition of my commitment to the promotion of microbiology, scientific leadership, and international cooperation.
